Hofbräuhaus

It had been a while since our last visit. After going to Hofbrauhaus am Platzl in Munich, we just didn't think that the German fare in Melbourne was up to scratch. However, craving some pork knuckles and German beer, we headed back to the famous Hofbrauhaus on Market Lane. The verdict?

We had:
Traditional spicy Kransky filled with cheese and  served with German mustard, house made mashed potatoes and Bavarian spiced sauerkraut - Definitely a step up from previous visits where the presentation was a bit sloppy and the occasional cold sausage was had. This time, it was done perfectly with the cheese oozing out of the sausage. The potato mash was creamy and seasoned well and of course the tanginess of the sauerkraut complemented the sausage nicely.

Bavarian pickled roasted pork knuckle on a bed of sauerkraut, served with house made potato dumplings and house Bier jus -  Crackling, crackling, crackling!!! Done to perfection. It was the best pork knuckle we have had in a while. The meat was tender and juicy and falling off the bone. Did we mention the crackling.... the crackling was simply amazing. Still dreaming about it. Didn't need the dumplings as the portions were huge and the jus and sauerkraut was more than enough on the plate.

Good beer selection and even a no-alcohol beer for those that can't drink. Just make sure the waitress gets the order right. A low alcohol beer was served instead of a no alcohol one, causing distress for the missus who is allergic to alcohol. Hence the low score given for service.
